Artist Statement
This 8.5” x 11” watercolor painting captures orange day lilies in various stages of bloom against a bluegreen background. Created from a personal photograph, the piece reflects my appreciation for the familiar beauty found in everyday landscapes. Although orange day lilies are not native to the eastern United States, they have become a common and recognizable part of the region’s summer scenery. For me, they are closely connected to memories of home and the comfort of familiar places. Their bright colors and resilient presence create a sense of warmth, cheerfulness, and welcome. The fleeting blooms serve as a reminder to appreciate simple moments of beauty while they are present.
