IN AN EFFORT TO STAY CONNECTED WITH OUR MEMBER ARTISTS, WE THOUGHT WE WOULD VISIT THEIR STUDIOS AND SHARE A BIT OF THEIR WORK IN PROGRESS WITH YOU.

• TODAY WE FEATURE SUSAN GETTY •

Working out of my home studio, Stony Run Art Studio, during the recent months of being furloughed from my office job has been a wonderful opportunity to spend a lot more time making art. Depending on the mood of the day I pull out oils, acrylics, watercolors or pastels.

I’ve completed two commissioned portraits which I can’t show because they are gifts that haven’t been given yet, but my main focus has been getting down to work on illustrations for my second children’s book which I’ve been avoiding for many years! For this project I decided to dive in with yet another medium and make collages from hand painted paper.

I've painted tracing paper, handmade paper, even old atlas pages to build a collection of
fantastic options for colors and textures for my illustrations.

When I need a break from cutting and gluing, I happily turn. to small paintings like this 5" X 5" village.
(We were supposed to be planning a trip to Italy this year, but that's not happening...)

Some days call for abstraction, and…

...some days a dose of realism is what I need. But always COLOR!
