Independent Clay Studio.

The Independent Clay Studio (ICS) offers flexible, membership-based, open studio access for experienced potters and dedicated ceramics students who want additional studio time outside of scheduled classes. ICS is ideal for artists who are comfortable working independently and want consistent access to a fully equipped pottery studio to refine techniques, complete projects, or develop a body of work.

ICS members enjoy:

Open studio access during designated hours

Use of pottery wheels, slab roller, handbuilding tools, and worktables

Glaze access and kiln firing services

A supportive community of local ceramic artists

The creative environment of a nonprofit community arts center in downtown Carlisle

ICS Hours
Tuesday: 10 - 4 Wednesday: 10 - 4

Thursday: 10 - 4 and 6 - 9

Friday: 10 - 4 Saturday: 10 - 2

To qualify for ICS, you must be an active member of CALC, be at least 12 years old, and demonstrate proficiency with clay. Typically, this means you have taken at least two CALC ceramics classes within the past two years, or have prior experience and have completed at least one ceramics class at CALC.

Because ICS is open studio time (not instructional time), participants should be able to work independently and follow studio safety guidelines. All ICS artists meet briefly with the Studio Director for approval before getting started.
