We were lucky enough to complete a long awaited trip to Yellowstone in February. We love Yellowstone and I was so inspired by our first trip in the summer of 2016. We took our family back in 2018 and began planning a winter trip about 18 months ago. The park is amazing during both seasons and not just because snow replaces the summer crowds. In winter the animals outnumber the people and the park is very quiet and breathtaking.
I am finishing up a painting based on a photo I took in the Hayden Valley, Yellowstone.
Finished Painting of Hayden Valley
I usually apply a coat or two of high gloss varnish to paintings which brings out the color and protects the surface.
For another landscape painting, I am beginning to layer textures using plastic on wet paint. The process includes several layers of paint. The plastic creates interesting effects that are sometimes quite visible in the sky area and in other areas the texture may show through additional layers of paint.
The painting in process is based on a photo of Paradise Valley, Chico Hot Springs, Montana about 25 minutes from the Northern entrance to Yellowstone.
