Overcoming Separateness
2024
with United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County, CALC ArtWorks, ArtLab, and Artful Aging
This exhibit, along with a complementary installation at the Carlisle YMCA, is the culmination of a year-long collaborative project between Carlisle Arts Learning Center and the United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County. In this public art project, five commissioned artists play a key role in creating community-wide awareness of The Basics 5, part of the Success by 6 initiative, which encourages strong early childhood development. During and after this exhibit, postcards showing these works of art will continue to be issued by local health centers, community centers, and childcare facilities in the southcentral PA region. This collaboration got us thinking – how does this kind of interaction extend throughout our entire lives?
Care and love are both complex, essential parts of living—through all stages, ages, and relationships. Five new, original works by local artists Artzbeat, Luke Gawron, Molly Goehring, Michelle Moats, and Carol Reed were shown alongside a series of community-based artworks made by CALC’s ArtWorks, ArtLab, and Artful Aging programs. Together, these projects emphasize the importance of overcoming separateness through care and attention to one another.
