IN AN EFFORT TO STAY CONNECTED WITH OUR MEMBER ARTISTS, WE THOUGHT WE WOULD VISIT THEIR STUDIOS AND SHARE A BIT OF THEIR WORK IN PROGRESS WITH YOU.
• TODAY WE FEATURE MIKE KNOWLTON •
When I first started my photography, it was mostly printed in black and white and developed in my basement darkroom. These days, I focus on digital photography, photos of landscapes, animals and people taken during my travels to interesting corners of the world. My Work in Progress during this quarantine involves: contributing photos to my wife, Sherry's daily "Moment of Zen" pandemic series on Facebook, reviewing files from past trips for photos to select for development/printing, and planning our next post-pandemic travels. Enjoy- Mike Knowlton
I took this photo, "Patagonian Sunrise," very early one morning from the window of my room in Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.
This lion was part of a pride lounging in a tree on the Serengeti Plain in Tanzania. Image is titled “Lion Interrupted”
This "Old Sailor" was one of the boat crew on a sail we took from Bequia in the Grenadines.
The house in "Blue Porthole" sat on the bank of the Burgundy Canal in France. I took this shot through the porthole of our barge.
This shot took second place for photography in CALC's 2020 Member Show.
My work in processing and printing photos is done in a small room in my house. The more interesting part of the process is in the field, when I take the photos. Here's an example - a photo my wife took of me, trying to wrangle kids into a photo, in a Samburu village in northern Kenya.
