IN AN EFFORT TO STAY CONNECTED WITH OUR MEMBER ARTISTS, WE THOUGHT WE WOULD VISIT THEIR STUDIOS AND SHARE A BIT OF THEIR WORK IN PROGRESS WITH YOU.

• TODAY WE FEATURE JOHN GUARNERA •

I have been working on a series of larger architectural pieces. Much of my recent work is centered in the passing of time and civilization. These structures are vacant, weathered and worn. Because of the size they are constructed a bit at a time. I am limited by the size of the kiln so build to the limits allowing for shrinkage to accommodate the piece.

These photos span approximately two weeks. After completion the piece requires several additional weeks of drying time. I then will brush underglazes over the entire surface wiping off the high spots. A bit of graphic graffiti is added, shino glaze is sprayed or poured over some surfaces and ash sprinkled.
