IN AN EFFORT TO STAY CONNECTED WITH OUR MEMBER ARTISTS, WE THOUGHT WE WOULD VISIT THEIR STUDIOS AND SHARE A BIT OF THEIR WORK IN PROGRESS WITH YOU.

TODAY WE WILL FEATURE GUY FREEMAN

"My goal is to find safe and convenient places like I had in the Carlisle area where I could repeatedly visit the LeTort and the Yellow Breeches. It's very helpful being comfortable with a place and knowing that I can explore it frequently. Becoming familiar with a place is a gift. The benefit is getting to understand how the light changes from season to season, and time of day, as well as being able to see the changes and differences every time I go back. I don't have to go far away or to different places all the time. And you know I'm getting ready for next winter - a photograph of the ocean in a snowstorm is the top mark. It's mostly because I'm curious about how it will look with the moving waves and the snowflakes, which will require a balance curiosity and caution for my own well being!” - Guy Freeman

This shot "York Bluffs,  March 28, 2020" was taken in Maine, 20 minutes from Guy's new home.  The progression of the frames shows Guy's post-production thought-process.

He looks at the whole photograph

and then works on cropping the best way to convey the image.

In this case, he decides on the square format. Adjustments are made to bring out the details that merit attention.  The last 2 images represent the primary results he will "sit with" until the best one emerges, the most difficult part of the process.

Guy's exhibit, "Liquid", at The Gallery at JN Studios will be the opening exhibit in late-summer/early Fall 2020.
