The pieces this show is grounded in are from a series I called Modern Folklore . Each painting is based on experiences from my childhood, and what I thought of as our personal folklore within my family of origin. Each piece has a story attached which visitors to the show can read by scanning the QR code on the tag. Folklore is ultimately a story handed down. It can be a myth, it can have a moral or just be something fantastical to keep us in awe of the natural world. I often work in a series exploring themes and ideas which come from music or books or even the etymology of words.
Apart from the original pieces I’ve expanded this collection to include interpretation of folklore from other cultures. This was ripe for exploration as folklore generally includes nature and often has ties across different cultures in ways that can be enlightening. WE are all a part of each other.
I hope you enjoy this series and all the color that our collective histories can bring.

About Tina
Tina is a mixed media artist living and working in Harrisburg, Pa. Her primary focus is acrylic as an abstract expressionist but she also enjoys working with collage, found objects and assemblage, and digital art.
Tina believes that most art has meaning to both the creator and viewer. She is a story teller and uses her connection to nature as a spring board to her art. She also loves the mythos and patterns and textures of other cultures and looks to those things for inspiration. She feels this brings a tension to her work somewhere between meaning and beauty.
Tina maintains her studio space at The Millworks in Harrisburg. She has also exhibited and won awards at Creative York, Hive Artspace, York Art association, Harrisburg Art Association, Café 1500, Gallery at 2nd, Tutonnis in York, Smith Gallery in New Cumberland and Brain Vessel.
She is also currently a part of the “Nothing Pretty Group” whose focus is on low brow and pop art.
