IN AN EFFORT TO STAY CONNECTED WITH OUR MEMBER ARTISTS, WE THOUGHT WE WOULD VISIT Their Studios AND SHARE A BIT OF THEIR WORK IN PROGRESS WITH YOU.
• TODAY WE WILL FEATURE BRANDIE STONGE FROM HUMMINGBEE STUDIO •
Here are some shots of my studio in Boiling Springs.
The table with the green chairs is where I host my student lessons each week - I am missing them and their sweet art very much in these weeks.
One of my goals in 2020 is to become more earth friendly as an artist. I’ve begun making my own glues and gesso, as well as experimenting with making my own paints from natural earth pigments. I mix the pigments with different binders for different types of paint.
The egg tempera lends itself quite nicely to the washed out look found on the Mediterranean coast - which is the subject of my current two works in progress. Whether I am doing a work with free motion sewing, collage or a painting, my work most often begins with thumbnail sketches. I like using my printer to significantly enlarge my thumbnail sketches to work off of as I go. Looking forward to finishing this pair of paintings in the days ahead.
My current work in progress is painted with egg tempera. I mix egg yolk and water with the pigments for a really nice palette that layers nicely.
