Calling all CALC Member Artists! It’s time to start planning your entries for CALC’s 2027 Members’ Show. In 2027 we will be exploring the myriad hues of blue or artwork inspired by music! Many of you may have recognized the title of the show as the title of a Bob Dylan song. Music has often been a source of inspiration for artists, so turn on some tunes and start creating!
A Bit About Blue
Blue is not a commonly occurring color in nature, but when it does occur, it has a big impact- the sky, the ocean, flowers (though most blue flowers are the result of human intervention), or semi-precious stones like lapis lazuli. Its relative rarity is perhaps why it was the last color to get its own word in the English language. Early root works for Blue could more accurately be translated to things like “sky-colored” or “lead-colored”. In fact, some languages do not have a word for blue- using their word for green to describe both colors. Today we associate blue with calm, peace, and tranquility, but also with authority and reliability. When asking people for their favorite color, blue is the most commonly chosen color.
