Let’s get BURN’n! Pyrography literally means “fire writing,” In this 3-hour workshop you will be guided through the process of preparing your surface to fire writing your own tree of life! This is an adventurous practice of meditative drawing, mindfulness, patience, and intention that you can take with you and make your own.

Students need to bring a woodburner to class

Folk Art Tile or Trivit

In this class students will paint ceramic tiles with colorful underglazes. Participants will choose one 6”x6” or two 4”x4” tiles to decorate. The tiles will be finished with a clear gloss glaze and available for pick up at CALC after they are fired. Finished pieces can be used as decorative tiles, trivets, wall plaques, or coasters. Participants should bring simple ideas, drawings, or photographs in a 4”x4” or 6”x6” format to use. Pets or flowers work well. Images will be available for participants who do not bring their own imagery.

Try it Out! - RAKU Workshop

Wednesday, October 11

Try your hand at Raku. This spectacular ancient
firing technique is unlike most ceramic firing
processes. Red hot pieces are removed from the kiln and smothered with sawdust and newspaper. You’ll love the dramatic results!

One day classes for all skill levels. Students will work on pre-thrown forms which will be fired and glazed. All but the Raku pieces will be picked up in about a week.

Avocado Dyeing

Explore the wonderful world of naturally dyeing.  We will be using avocado pits to dye a large cotton gauze scarf a soft pink.  Learn about how to mordant, prepare the dye and care for your naturally dyed textile. While our textiles are dyeing you will have a choice of creating a small weaving or learning to arm knit.

Cut it Out! Ceramic Lanterns

Finger Painting for All!

Open Paint Studio

Thursdays at 7 p.m. •  $10 per session

Work along with other CALC artists! Session begins with a 15-30 minute demonstration on various techniques followed by a 2 hr independent work session. Bring Your own materials, work on Your own project.

Try It Glassblowing

This class is designed to teach you the basics of glass
blowing. You will choose from a bud vase,Christmas ornament or small glass that you will make and take home that day!  No prior glass working experience is required.
Classes will be held in Michael’s Elizabethtown studio.

Harrisburg Area Community College, where he received a degree in visual art & design. Michael has taken numerous classes at The Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY. Michael currently operates a soft glass and flameworking studio in Dover, PA.

Indigo Dyed gifts for the Holidays!

It’s the perfect time to make some great last minute gifts using everyone’s favorite blue. Come explore various resist methods and experience the magic of Indigo dyeing. We will be using a synthetic indigo vat to dye 2 pairs of bamboo socks and a cotton knit infinity (circle) Scarf. Additional pairs of socks ($4.00 each) and scarves ($7.50 each) will be available for purchase if you want to make more gifts.

CALC Refund Policy for Art Classes

Carlisle Arts Learning Center does not provide a cash refund for cancellation of art classes, unless the class is cancelled by CALC. If the student cancels with a notice of at least 30 days prior to the start of the class a gift certi cate will be issued for 100% of the class fee. If the student cancels with less than 30 days prior notice a gift certi cate will be issued for 90% of the class value.
