Dyeing with Fresh Leaf Indigo

Teacher: Carol Reed

Ages: 12 – Adult

July 7th, Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Fee: $40 member/$45 non-member

Materials Fee: $20

Create a sky blue silk scarf dyeing with fresh indigo leaves. We’ll be using indigo harvested from the instructor’s garden that morning.  No vat, no chemicals, no blue hands (or not very blue!).  Join us to learn about one of the simplest and most beautiful indigo applications. While our textiles are dyeing there will be another fiber-based project to explore.

Cut-It-Out!

Workshop with Ceramic Artist, Maureen Joyce

Wednesday, July 18
6:00-8:00 p.m.
Ages 12 to Adult

Fee: $35 Member ($40 Non-Member)

Material fee: $10.00

Create a ceramic lantern using a pre-thrown form. Maureen will show you how to cut out shapes to make a beautiful lantern. Students will select a glaze and Maureen will fire your piece and it will be ready for you to pick up in about a week after the class. All tools and materials are provided, no experience needed. Some tools used are sharp knives and adult supervision is needed for younger participants.

Maureen Joyce is the director of ArtsLive and a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen living in Carlisle PA.  She attended Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and currently studies at Harrisburg Area Community College. She teaches a variety of ceramic workshops at CALC to encourage participants to explore clay’s various possibilities.

Mixed Media "Play Day' Workshop

Ages: Adult

Saturday, August 25

11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Fee: $35 ($40 non-member)

Drop in as your schedule permits. Bring materials you wish to swap and share with other artists. (ex. papers, old books, magazines, trinkets, supports, excess paint or mediums.) Feel free to bring your preferred paints, medium, and brushes for your own use.

11 - 12ish:  Create your own hand painted papers.  Papers provided. Plenty of protected space will be available for painting and printing.

1 - 2ish:  Cathy will show some transfer methods and project examples for inspiration.

3 - 4ish: End of day Trading Card pARTy, make one...take one!

CALC will provide glues, basic paints, artist trading card blanks, small journals, 5x7 boards, and a variety of odd frames and supports for your use.

Please be prepared to take home any swap materials contributed but not used.

Light snacks provided. Lunch on your own.

Paint Night ~ Lake Reflections

Painters will create an original design of Fall trees reflected in a quiet lake on a 16 x 20 canvas. All the materials and refreshments will be provided.

Open Paint Studio

Thursdays at 7 p.m. •  $10 per session

Work along with other CALC artists! Session begins with a 15-30 minute demonstration on various techniques followed by a 2 hour independent work session. Bring your own materials, work on your own project.



Greeting Cards for Charity

Enjoy a fun, creative class as you make a special and meaningful card for a child who is sick in the hospital. You will make between 2-3 handmade greeting cards in this class as you follow some guidelines on content. The “Cards For Hospitalized Kids” organization will distribute new hand made greeting cards to sick children in hospitals in the USA. Cards will be collected after the class and mailed to Cards For Hospitalized Kids in one large envelope.

CALC Refund Policy for Art Classes

Carlisle Arts Learning Center does not provide a cash refund for cancellation of art classes, unless the class is cancelled by CALC. If the student cancels with a notice of at least 30 days prior to the start of the class a gift certi cate will be issued for 100% of the class fee. If the student cancels with less than 30 days prior notice a gift certi cate will be issued for 90% of the class value.
