Bundle Dye with Flowers and Herbs

Keep the wonderful colors of summer with you all year round.  Join us and bundle dye with flowers and herbs from the instructors dye garden and local farms.  We’ll create a colorful silk scarf while learning about natural dyes and mordant.  While the silk scarves are “cooking” we’ll pound color into a cotton bandanna using the same flowers and the “Hapa Zome” technique.

Cut-It-Out!

Workshop with Ceramic Artist, Maureen Joyce

Wednesday, August 28
6:00-8:00 p.m.
Ages 12 to Adult
Fee: $40 Member ($45 Non-Member)
Material fee: $10.00

Create a ceramic lantern using a pre-thrown form. Maureen will show you how to cut out shapes to make a beautiful lantern. Students will select a glaze and Maureen will fire your piece and it will be ready for you to pick up in about a week after the class. All tools and materials are provided, no experience needed. Some tools used are sharp knives and adult supervision is needed for younger participants.

Maureen Joyce is the director of ArtsLive and a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen living in Carlisle PA.  She attended Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and currently studies at Harrisburg Area Community College. She teaches a variety of ceramic workshops at CALC to encourage participants to explore clay’s various possibilities.

Weaving 101

Materials Fee: $15
Take a break and explore tapestry weaving. You will learn to warp a simple loom, plain weave, create pile or fringe and remove the weaving from the loom and finish it.  Each student will have 2 small wooden looms (approx. 3” x 2 ¾”) to make wall hangings, necklaces or ornaments and a cardboard loom to experiment with.

CALC Refund Policy for Art Classes
Carlisle Arts Learning Center does not provide a cash refund for cancellation of art classes, unless the class is cancelled by CALC. In order to request a withdrawal from a class or workshop, students must contact CALC at least 5 days before the first class meeting. Students who request a withdrawal at least 5 days prior to the first meeting will receive a 90% tuition class credit. Students withdrawing fewer than 5 days from the first day of class are not eligible for a class credit.
Please note we are unable to provide make-up opportunities, prorate or provide refunds for missed classes due to personal scheduling conflicts.
