Class & materials fee includes all materials and instruction as well as beverages and snacks. All skill levels welcome- our experienced potter, Thom Bissey, will insure that you’ll create a successful piece.

Monday Night Wheel Throwing

Emphasizing the fundamentals of wheel thrown pottery such as centering, pulling, shaping, trimming & glazing. Students will also explore essential craft theory as they improve. Class is open to all skill levels.

Kurt Brantner, Ceramicist and Artist-In-Residence at CALC. Graduated from Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA with a BFA in painting. He worked in NC at Dirt Works Pottery for a one year apprenticeship, then continued there as a production and studio potter. His studio is in Boiling Springs, PA.

Folk Art Tile or Trivit

In this class students will paint ceramic tiles with colorful underglazes. Participants will choose one 6”x6” or two 4”x4” tiles to decorate. The tiles will be finished with a clear gloss glaze and available for pick up at CALC after they are fired. Finished pieces can be used as decorative tiles, trivets, wall plaques, or coasters. Participants should bring simple ideas, drawings, or photographs in a 4”x4” or 6”x6” format to use. Pets or flowers work well. Images will be available for participants who do not bring their own imagery.

Clay Monsters

In this fun, creative class participants will make original clay monsters. We will explore the characteristics of monsters and learn a variety of hand building techniques. No previous clay/art experience needed. This is the perfect opportunity for parents and kids to make art together. Individual adults are welcome, children 7 and up can enroll with an adult who is also enrolled in the class. On the first date we will build the creatures. On the second date they will be glazed. Monsters will be available for pick up once they are glaze fired

Try it Out! - RAKU Workshop

Wednesday, October 11
6:00-8:00 p.m.
Try your hand at Raku. This spectacular ancient
firing technique is unlike most ceramic firing
processes. Red hot pieces are removed from the kiln and smothered with sawdust and newspaper. You’ll love the dramatic results!

One day classes for all skill levels. Students will work on pre-thrown forms which will be fired and glazed. All but the Raku pieces will be picked up in about a week.

Cut it Out! Ceramic Lanterns

Make a Face!

Clay Your Way, Your Day!

Customize your own wheel throwing experience for 1 to 5 students. Couples, groups of friends, or families will make this class extra fun and personal. One fee for the whole program whether a one or multiple student class.

In this class, you will be introduced to the CALC ceramic studio and clay basics. Each student’s pieces will be finish fired and made ready for a future pick-up.

CALC Refund Policy for Art Classes

Carlisle Arts Learning Center does not provide a cash refund for cancellation of art classes, unless the class is cancelled by CALC. If the student cancels with a notice of at least 30 days prior to the start of the class a gift certi cate will be issued for 100% of the class fee. If the student cancels with less than 30 days prior notice a gift certi cate will be issued for 90% of the class value.
