What is  fashion?

Are the ongoing changes in clothing style  the result of the whims of designers and “couturiers” or do they respond to other imperatives?  We will explore the interplay between fashion , history, technology and culture through the creations of couturiers such as Worth, Poiret, Chanel and Schiaparelli and the role they played in the emancipation of women’s bodies.
