Cut-It-Out!

Workshop with Ceramic Artist, Maureen Joyce

Wednesday, August 28
6:00-8:00 p.m.
Ages 12 to Adult
Fee: $40 Member ($45 Non-Member)
Material fee: $10.00

Create a ceramic lantern using a pre-thrown form. Maureen will show you how to cut out shapes to make a beautiful lantern. Students will select a glaze and Maureen will fire your piece and it will be ready for you to pick up in about a week after the class. All tools and materials are provided, no experience needed. Some tools used are sharp knives and adult supervision is needed for younger participants.

Maureen Joyce is the director of ArtsLive and a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen living in Carlisle PA.  She attended Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and currently studies at Harrisburg Area Community College. She teaches a variety of ceramic workshops at CALC to encourage participants to explore clay’s various possibilities.

Metal Etching

Fee: $65 ($75 non-member) + $15 Materials fee

Join us for this workshop exploring the technique of salt water etching on copper. Salt water etching does not use the harsh chemicals traditionally associated with metal etching. Each guest will be provided with copper, resist materials, and a small power supply to use during the workshop.

Floral Enamel Pendant

Time: 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Fee: $40 ($45 non-member) + $5 Materials Fee 

During this class, guests learn how to apply and fuse enamel to copper using fire. Participants will create a copper enamel pendant with a floral accent in two colors.

Intro to Metal Jewelry: Riveting & Texture

Teacher: Gretchen Shea
Ages: Teen – Adult

Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Fee: $40 ($45 non-member) + $10 Materials fee

In this beginner level class, you will learn texturing and riveting metal. You’ll learn various techniques, and have an opportunity to practice, then be able to create your own unique designs. You will leave the class with a completed pendant!

The Bee's Knees En-caustic Painting

Teacher: Cathy Stone

An introduction to encaustic medium, which is a combination of beeswax and damar varnish - used warm. It can be colored, used as a collage medium, and incised or textured. After finishing, it can be buffed to a beautiful luster. We will create a square block with some natural motifs and hand-coloring which could sit or hang.

Enameling with Stamps

Using a large selection of rubber stamps for design, we will explore enameling in opaque and transparent colors to create a small 2D wall hanging. Participants are welcome to bring their own stamps. Through layers of enameling, we will bring these designs to life!

Intro to Metal Jewelry: Learn to Love Your Jeweler’s Saw

Teacher: Gretchen Shea
Ages: Teen – Adult
Fee: $40 ($45 non-members)

Wednesday, November 6
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Do you have a jewelers saw just sitting in a drawer because it’s too hard to use?  Come to this class and you’ll learn to love your jeweler’s saw! We will go over how to load the saw blade, proper techniques for sawing metal, and tips and tricks to make sawing your favorite thing! You will leave class with a finished pendant.
*No experience necessary. All tools & supplies provided. Have your own saw? Bring it along or use mine!

Craft Beer & Clay

Cost per session:
$40 ($45 non-member) + $20 materials fee
Classes start at 7 p.m.
A fun night out at CALC. Class & materials fee includes all materials and instruction as well as bevvies and snacks. All skill levels welcome--our experienced potter will ensure that you’ll create a successful piece. Choose hand building or wheel throwing.

CALC Refund Policy for Art Classes
Carlisle Arts Learning Center does not provide a cash refund for cancellation of art classes, unless the class is cancelled by CALC. In order to request a withdrawal from a class or workshop, students must contact CALC at least 5 days before the first class meeting. Students who request a withdrawal at least 5 days prior to the first meeting will receive a 90% tuition class credit. Students withdrawing fewer than 5 days from the first day of class are not eligible for a class credit.
Please note we are unable to provide make-up opportunities, prorate or provide refunds for missed classes due to personal scheduling conflicts.
